Being a marking teacher, it would be really helpful to be able to 'tick' or 'cross' in the speed grader/doc viewer for students responses. Can these be added please?
Hi Stephen and welcome to the Community! I have a quick question. When you talk about marking are you thinking about a situation in which students need to demonstrate particular elements within their papers so you would like to add a "tick" when you see these elements as you are reading the document, or do you have something else in mind? Have you tried some of the tools in SpeedGrader such as the highlighting free draw annotation tool and found they don't meet your needs?
Thanks for the clarification!
Hi Eric. No I am referring to giving a 'tick' for a correct answer or a 'cross' for an incorrect answer. I found the free draw annotator didn't do the job.
I think what Stephen is talking about is similar to what this person was asking about back in 2016 when they asked about Speedgrader / crocodoc: missing checkmark/tick/check symbols (yes/no)
Canvas has changed its annotation tool from Crocodoc to DocViewer since then, but the notion of using stamps has surfaced a couple of times.
There is a similar request open for voting right now Docviewer - default palette of icons/ images . I think that if you look at it, you'll see that it's what you're asking for and it already has 101 votes (as I type this).
In the meantime, the work-around given by Kimberly Hageman in the first thread I listed still works. It is not quick at all, definitely best suited for marking all correct and then going back and marking all incorrect or for setting up a keyboard macro. But the work-around was to open up a Word document and put the tick and the cross that you want to use inside there. Then copy/paste that into DocViewer. You can get a list of potential symbols from the Dingbats block of the Unicode characters. For example, if you want a checkmark ✓ it's Unicode code point U+2713 while a ballot x ✗ is Unicode code point U+2717. If you're using Word, you type the number followed by Alt+x. Any color and size settings have to be set from within DocViewer as that doesn't carry through with the copy.
Hello, Stephen McLeod Welcome to the Canvas Community! James Jones has pointed you in the right direction: please add your feedback and vote to Docviewer - default palette of icons/ images . We've archived your idea so we can keep vote totals and comment threads unified.
